Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has showcased a prototype of a humanoid robot that, for the first time, "walked without a tether on stage" during the company's AI Day 2022. Named "Optimus", the robot has the same artificial intelligence (AI) software and sensors present in Tesla's advanced driver assistance system called'Autopilot' and may cost around $20,000. According to Musk, it was the first time it was working without "any support, cranes, mechanical mechanisms or cables". Musk told the audience late on friday that the humanoid robot is made for mass production in the "millions" of units. The robot contains a 2.3 kilowatt per hour battery pack which is "perfect for about a full day's worth of work", runs on a Tesla chip, and has Wi-Fi and LTE connectivity, reports The Verge.

Tech giant Microsoft is rolling out a new Dictate feature to OneNote that supports AI-powered voice commands to control dictation, such as deleting text or undoing a recent step. The AI-powered voice commands can be used to format and edit text, such as deleting a word or undoing a recent step, and the platform said it plans to add more voice commands to Dictate over the coming months, reports Windows Central. "Now it is easy to break away from the keyboard and stay in the flow by using Dictate with AI-backed voice commands to add, format, edit, and organise your text," Sofia Thomas, Product Manager of Microsoft's Office Voice Team was quoted as saying. "Over the next few months, we will be adding new voice commands as well as some that are already available in other Office apps to One Note," it added. Dictate works with over 50 languages and provides an alternative way to input text within OneNote.

Tech giant MetaAhas created a single artificial intelligence (AI)-based model capable of translating across 200 different languages, including many not supported by current commercial tools. According to The Verge, the company is open-sourcing the project in the hopes that others will build on its work. The AI model is part of an ambitious R&D project by Meta to create a so-called "universal speech translator," which the company sees as important for growth across its many platforms -- from Facebook and Instagram to developing domains like VR and AR. Machine translation not only allows Meta to better understand its users (and so improve the advertising systems that generate 97 per cent of its revenue) but could also be the foundation of a killer app for future projects like its augmented reality glasses. Experts in machine translation told the website that Meta's latest research was ambitious and thorough, but noted that the quality of some of the model's translations would likely be well below that of better-supported languages like Italian or German.

The first of its kind electronic digital stethoscopes technology is developed by CDAC, Mohali and are packaged with value additions, manufactured and branded as AaboOne by the MedTech partner. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Baldev Setia, Director PEC and the chief guest of the function, said that India has highly skewed doctor-patient ratio and such devices along with telemedicine will help reach healthcare to the remotest of Indian citizens. Unveiling aaboOne - the convenient and sleek looking devices, the Executive Director of the institute, Dr. PK Khosla informed, "Stethoscope is one of the most widely used medical instrument and yet has remained largely untouched by new technologies. This new device not only provides amplification and recording of sound but also is suitable to be used for telemedicine and AI based automated diagnosis of diseases." He said CDAC, Mohali was committed to address the needs of society with advanced technological interventions and public private partnerships.

The global revenues for the artificial intelligence (AI) market, including software, hardware, and services, is forecast to grow 19.6 per cent (on-year) in 2022 to $432.8 billion, according to a new report. The market is expected to break the $500 billion mark in 2023, reports International Data Corporation (IDC). AI solutions are currently focused on business process problems and range from human augmentation to process improvement to planning and forecasting, empowering superior decisioning and outcomes. "Advancements in language, voice and vision technologies, and multi-modal AI solutions are revolutionizing human efficiencies," said Ritu Jyoti, group VP, Worldwide Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Automation Research at IDC. AI software will see its share of spending decline slightly in 2022 as spending for AI hardware and services grows more quickly. This trend will continue into 2023.
Machine Learning saves Energy by predicting accuracy of weather forecasts – RtoZ.Org – Latest Technology News
Sophisticated heating and cooling systems in Buildings adjust themselves based on the predicted weather. But when the forecast is imperfect – as it often is – buildings can end up wasting energy. A new approach developed by Cornell Researchers predicts the accuracy of the weather forecast using a machine learning model trained with years' worth of data on forecasts and actual weather conditions. The Researchers combined that predictor with a mathematical model that considers building characteristics including the size and shape of rooms, the construction materials, the location of sensors and the position of windows. The result is a smart control system that can reduce energy usage by up to 10 percent, according to a case study the research team conducted on Toboggan Lodge, a nearly 90-year-old building on Cornell's campus.

Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has claimed that Artificial Intelligence will be'vastly smarter' than any human and would overtake us by 2025. "We are headed toward a situation where AI is vastly smarter than humans. I think that time frame is less than five years from now. But that doesn't mean that everything goes to hell in five years. It just means that things get unstable or weird," Musk said in an interview with New York Times over the weekend.
Using artificial intelligence to improve early breast cancer detection – RtoZ.Org – Latest Technology News
Model developed at MIT's Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory could reduce false positives and unnecessary surgeries. Every year 40,000 women die from breast cancer in the U.S. alone. When cancers are found early, they can often be cured. Mammograms are the best test available, but they're still imperfect and often result in false positive results that can lead to unnecessary biopsies and surgeries. One common cause of false positives are so-called "high-risk" lesions that appear suspicious on mammograms and have abnormal cells when tested by needle biopsy. In this case, the patient typically undergoes surgery to have the lesion removed; however, the lesions turn out to be benign at surgery 90 percent of the time.

Global chip-making giant Intel is negotiating a deal to acquire Moovit, an Israeli startup that applies Artificial Intelligence (AI) and big data analytics to monitor traffic and give transit recommendations, a media report said. Expected to close in the coming days, the deal could be worth around $1 billion, TechCrunch reported on Sunday. Following the acquisition, Moovit could become part of Intel's Israeli automotive hub, which is anchored by the autonomous driving company Mobileye, said the report, citing sources. Intel acquired Mobileye for $15.3 billion in 2017. Moovit was valued at over $500 million at the time of its last round of funding, but its valuation has grown tremendously in the last couple of years.

Acknowledging the huge chasm that exists between rural and urban communities - be it in levels of education and medical access or between aspirations and achievement - a new book offers real solutions to tackle these challenges using technologies of the future, including mobile-ready solutions driven by Cloud and Artificial Intelligence (AI). "Bridgital Nation: Solving Technology's People Problem", co-authored by Natarajan Chandrasekaran, Chairman, Tata Sons and Roopa Purushothaman, Chief Economist and Head of Policy Advocacy, Tata Sons has been acquired by Penguin Random House India to be published under the Allen Lane imprint, known for advancing original and transformative ideas, and some of the most distinguished titles in serious non-fiction. It will be released in September 2019. Using new digital technology to address some of the biggest challenges in the country - such as access to quality jobs, better healthcare and skill-based education - the authors examine unique and novel programmes that would connect Indians, creating a network of services to be delivered when and where they are most required. From healthcare to education to business, the model can be applied in various sectors. By a conservative estimate, it could create and impact 30 million jobs by 2025, a statement said.
